Organise a Fundraiser

Organising a fundraiser is the best way to raise funds and awareness for NET patients.

We are frequently asked for ways an individual can help the Unicorn Foundation. We answer by saying that it is important to be determined in your cause and work within your means. Also understand that there is no such thing as a donation that is too small!

We rely solely on the community for our funding, so it is so rewarding when we receive donations that are the result of someone’s hard work on our behalf.

As with all charitable organisations, we are bound by the Charitable Fundraising Act, which was passed to protect donors by ensuring that all fundraising activities are undertaken according to the law. Therefore, it is important that we endorse and approve all activities that are embarked upon on behalf of the Foundation.

Some Fundraising Ideas:

  • Run a Fun Run
organise a team for the City to Surf 2011 or the Melbourne Marathon or any other local event
  • Hold a Movie Night
Book out a theatre and charge $20 with the proceeds going to the Unicorn Foundation
  • Sell some Unicorn Foundation Bracelets/ Necklaces /t towels /pins /wristbands
  • Host a morning tea at your workplace
everyone bring a plate and donate $5
  • Host a Ladies Lunch
Christmas in July, Spring Racing Carnival, Christmas lunch
  • Have a birthday coming up?
Ask for donations in lieu of presents

When you are holding a fundraising event for the Unicorn Foundation it is very important to be incredibly clear about how you are doing it. You must keep careful records of your income and, if relevant, your expenditure and be prepared to show them to people.

If your fundraiser involves your friends making donations to the Foundation, then they are entitled to a tax deduction for all donations over $2 AUS.  Keep a record of the donors’ names and addresses and the amounts donated.  We will issue receipts as soon as we receive the money based on this information.

Please be aware that events which give the supporter something in return, eg a lunch or dinner, or goods purchased, do not attract a tax deduction.

Once you are issued a letter of Authority by the Unicorn Foundation you will be able to use our name in promoting your event to your friends and the community.

We are always happy to provide donation collection forms, newsletters and Unicorn Foundation banners / car decals to support your fundraising efforts.

Please ring us on 1300 CURENETS or Simone on 0419 871 975 to discuss your coming fundraising activity.

And lastly but most importantly thank you for your support and good luck!
