More than 300 students and parents dressed in white for  ‘A White Christmas' Carols evening at Oatley West Public School (OWPS) last night to raise awareness of the Unicorn Foundation.

The special fundraising event was held on Thursday 8 December, 2011 in memory of parent, Donna White, 41, who bravely fought a rare neuroendocrine cancer for several years before it took her life a few weeks ago.

Proud mum to OWPS students William, 7, and Luke, 5, Donna was an active member of the school community volunteering for canteen, reading groups and the annual Art & Craft Show.

Donna will be fondly remembered as a dedicated All Saints Oatley West soccer team manager, founding member of the Oatley Book Club, lifetime member of the Jannali Netball Association, work with Golden Retriever Rescue and as an experienced and knowledgeable executive on public and private sector infrastructure projects.

P&C President, Alia Karaman said the event aims to raise greater awareness of the illness and the work of the Unicorn Foundation.

“It’s great to see the whole school community come together to enjoy a fabulous night of singing and entertainment to raise money for such a worthy cause,” Ms Karaman said.

‘A White Christmas’ Carols event included singing Christmas Carols, a visit from Santa, musical performances and the Christmas nativity story. Refreshments including tea, coffee, BBQ food and drinks were available. Proceeds from the sale of homemade Christmas cookies, Caffe’ al Volo and raffle will be donated to The Unicorn Foundation.

Approximately $3600 has already been raised in honour of Donna White and this event has so far contributed a further $2200 for the Unicorn Foundation. Raffle tickets will continue to be sold by Ray White Oatley until next Thursday evening, 13 December where the grand prize of an ipad and other prizes will be drawn at theOatleyVillageshopping night.

About $10,025 has been raised as of 22/12/2011
