World NET Awareness Day November 10th
In its second year, World NET Awareness Day on November 10th proved to be a fantastic day here in Australia, and also around the world (www.netcancerday.org). The Unicorn Foundations' activities included a press conference at Melbourne City Square with Lord Mayor Robert Doyle, Peter MacCallum's Professor Rod Hicks and our courageous patient Kristen Leknius. As awareness raising is the main objective of the day we were lucky enough to have a channel 9 news reporter as well as a Herald Sun reporter at the event. Although we only received coverage in the Herald Sun (article to the right) one out of two is a great result!
On the day Dr John Leyden was also present in news grabs on over 20 radio stations around Australia. Thank you to the fantastic girls on the Circle who wore our pins and did their part in explaining this type of cancer and the importance of early detection. Thank you also to Mike Larkin on Channel 10 and to Channel 9 news in Adelaide for covering our story and raising awareness.
The Unicorns that were produced for the day were a hit and thank you to everyone who sent in their pic of their Unicorn from around Australia. A special thank you to Novartis for getting involved and carrying out a number activities with their staff both in head office in Sydney and interstate. A special thank you to Sonia Baker of Novartis Brisbane for arranging numerous morning teas around Queensland and for even organising a Unicorn outfit to be worn!.
Thanks also to all the very talented girls of Undertow Media in Melbourne, Amanda Graham, Jess Nunns, Johanna Murray and Merilla Colovic, for their hard work, dedication and passion for our cause.
